Film stars and celebrities often share their views on public matters that have little to do with their profession.

Is this a positive or negative development?

Sharing their viewpoints has become quite common for famous figures with large platforms on various topics. I personally opine, though there is potential for abuse, it is a positive overall as they can contribute diverse perspectives.

On the one hand, Critics cite their comments and argue that actors/actresses are not always well informed. This is because there are experts in every field, ranging from politics and science to sports and the arts and yet only stars in the entertainment world intend to form statements related to outsized platforms. For instance, many actors, athletes, and singers have become part of the anti-vaccination movement. If the views of health experts and epidemiologists are often subordinated to celebrity comments just to generate online traffic and ratings, people may sometimes follow a wrong direction as they tend to admire their favorite stars. However, this argument is undermined by research showing that professionals are notoriously poor at making predictions concerning their own area of expertise. On the other hand, most actors may help people by raising awareness related to environmental issues in different parts of the world. The reason for this is that they are also well aware of the issues and willing to contribute to contribute to the society. The most recent example of this would be the awareness raised related to environmental issues by various singers and actors when they accept awards. If stars will only focus on their careers instead of supporting awareness campaigns, it would take long time to make efforts successful as celebrities can do it using new voices, styles, nationalities, and personalities. These individuals can then provide the average campaign an insightful glimpse into another part of society.

In conclusion, although there is risk that celebrities will be uninformed on a topic, their opinions are still important as they are typically candid, authentic, and diverse. In this era of inclusivity, it is advisable to value their viewpoints after giving a careful review.
